What Should you do after a car accident?
Most drivers at some point will be involved in a car accident. We hope you'll beat the odds, but just in case, its good to know these
steps so that you can stay safe and streamline the claim process.
1. Check for injuries and then move to safety.
Does anyone need immediate medical attention? If so, call an ambulance. Turn on your hazards then move yourself and others out of harms way.
3. Call the police
An officer should come out to complete an accident report. Get a copy of the report, or information exchange document, as well as the officer’s name, badge number and phone number
5. Take pictures and look for witnesses
Record as many accident details as possible, from the date and time to whether or not any guardrails or other structures were damaged. Take photos and write down what other drivers, passengers and eyewitnesses say.
7. Check in with yourself
Do you need to see a doctor or take a day off work? Prioritize your physical and mental health in the hours that follow — even small accidents require recovery time.
2. Stop your car
Whether you think you’re at fault or not, don’t leave the scene, even after a minor accident. If possible pull your car into the closest parking lot or shoulder. You don’t want to be charged with a hit-and-run or risk having your license revoked.
4.Limit conversation to the facts
Let the police and insurance companies determine fault. Be polite, but limit your conversation to exchanging key insurance and driver information.
6. File a Claim
You can do this right away or once you get home, but be sure to file as soon as you can. You can find claims contact information on our website https://wilgusins.com/claims/
8. call us to help
If you can’t remember any of this, call us from the scene. We’re here to help.
